3 Surefire Tips To Get Ready Before Dental Implant Surgery

Dental implants can provide you with a level of stability and security that you might struggle to find from other methods of tooth replacement. They easily last for decades at a time, regularly outlasting other methods of replacing teeth by two or three times.

However, some people are still discouraged from pursuing the treatment because of the surgery, a unique feature of this treatment compared to others. Fortunately, this procedure doesn’t have to be daunting if you’re prepared. Here’s what you can do to make surgery a breeze.

Consider Your Morning Meal

When receiving any kind of surgery, it can be a little bit of a tricky question whether you should eat before the treatment. In many cases, it’s a good idea to eat a big breakfast before your surgery, as the numbing agent may take a while to fade from your mouth, making it a little bit difficult to eat afterward.

However, some stronger sedatives like IV or oral conscious sedation can upset your stomach, which can be especially problematic if you’ve eaten a lot beforehand. In such situations, you may instead want to refrain from eating for a few hours before your surgery.

Get a Ride

Speaking of sedation, it’s typically a good idea to get a ride to and from your appointment if you expect to be sedated. Even if you’re using sedatives that fade quickly like IV or nitrous oxide, it’s still a good idea to get someone to drive you back in case you’re still feeling groggy after treatment.

Take Your Time

The most important factor in recovering from your dental implant surgery is to get some rest. While you should feel good enough to go back to work the next day, it’s a good idea to take it easy the day you actually get the surgery. This will ensure that you can properly take care of the surgical wound in the hours immediately following the procedure, and that you don’t injure yourself trying to hurriedly eat after your treatment.
