The Clear Path to a Straighter Smile

Are you interested in improving the alignment of your bite without wearing metal brackets and wires for two or more years? Most adults are wary of having traditional braces, even as much as they would like to have straighter, more beautiful teeth. Fortunately, Invisalign provides a wonderful cosmetic orthodontic solution. These clear plastic aligners place focused pressure on different areas of the bite throughout the treatment to gradually bring the teeth into their proper position. Why Choose Jacksonville Complete Dentistry for Invisalign?

How Invisalign Works

Clear braces aligners

Invisalign uses the same orthodontic principles as traditional metal braces, with the big difference being that it relies on clear plastic aligners instead of visible hardware to improve the alignment of your bite. To create your series of aligners, we will take impressions, X-rays, and photographs of your teeth and surrounding oral structures. This information is sent to the Invisalign lab, where the trays are created from sturdy plastic.

You can begin treatment as soon as you receive the aligners. Simply wear each set for one to two weeks, depending on our recommendation, before switching to the next in the series. Wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day, removing them only to brush, floss, eat and drink, as well as for limited special events. After about one year on average, the treatment is complete -- and you will be ready to flash your most confident, beautiful smile!

Indications for Invisalign

Young man smiling

Many adults and older teens are eligible for Invisalign clear braces. This orthodontic treatment system can fix the most common orthodontic issues, including:

Crowded Teeth

Overcrowded and overlapped teeth can negatively impact the look, health, and function of your smile, which is why many dentists encourage their patients to pursue orthodontic treatment. With Invisalign, our talented team can discreetly guide your teeth into their properly aligned positions!

Gaps Between Teeth

Sometimes, patients love the gap between their two front teeth. Other times, it’s a feature that makes them self-conscious. If you’re a part of the latter group, then talk to our Jacksonville dentists about Invisalign. With the clear aligners, you’ll see the gap (or gaps) close before your eyes!

Bite Alignment

In addition to overcrowded and spaced-out teeth, Invisalign can fix overbites, underbites, and crossbites! So, if you need to improve the position of your teeth and the alignment of your bite, don’t worry – that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to wear metal brackets and wires.

The Benefits of Invisalign

We’ve touched on how discreet the clear aligners are a few times so far. Although noteworthy, that’s not the only benefit of this innovative orthodontic treatment! In addition to being virtually undetectable, Invisalign:

How to Care for Your Aligners

To advance through your treatment without any delays, it is important that you take proper care of your Invisalign trays. Make sure you rinse them after you take them out and before re-inserting them to prevent bacteria buildup that causes bad breath, cavities, and gum disease. Store the trays in their hard, ventilated case anytime you are not using them to keep them safe from damage and being thrown in the trash (it happens more than you might think). Clean your Invisalign trays with the special Invisalign cleanser or hand soap at least once a day -- and never expose them to warm or hot water, which could cause the plastic to warp.

If you do damage one of your Invisalign trays, do not hesitate to contact your dentist for prompt repair or replacement. Sometimes you can go ahead and advance to the next aligner in the series, but you will need your dentist’s input first.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

The price of Invisalign varies. That’s why we need to see you for a consultation in order to provide you with an accurate estimate of the cost! After taking X-rays and conducting an exam, we will have valuable information, like the severity of your misalignment and how many trays you need. Then, we can get to work on creating your custom treatment plan and review all of the financial solutions we offer, including flexible financing. We will also go over all of the treatment guidelines to help you stay on-track with your treatment plan.

Considering Invisalign in Jacksonville to straighten your teeth or realign your bite? The team at Jacksonville Complete Dentistry is happy you’ve decided to move forward with this method of orthodontic care and look forward to helping you achieve the perfect smile. But before you get started, our team has compiled some frequently asked questions about Invisalign that you might find beneficial to review. These answers will give you greater insight and information about the process and what you can expect during your treatment. If at any point you have additional questions, we invite you to contact our office and schedule an appointment.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGE OR LOSE AN ALIGNER?

To avoid losing or damaging an aligner, the best thing you can do is to keep them in a protective case when you are not wearing them (i.e., while eating or drinking). However, should you discover that one of your clear aligners is broken, damaged, or you’ve lost one, make sure to keep the previous set. Why? Because once you alert us to the situation, you will need to come in and see your dentist in Jacksonville. Once we take a look, you can either return to wearing your previous set while a new aligner is created for you, or you can move forward to the next set depending on where you are in your treatment.

WILL MY DENTAL INSURANCE COVER THE COST OF TREATMENT?

While most dental insurance companies do cover a portion of orthodontic treatment, many have stipulations as to which type of orthodontic fixtures are covered. You will need to discuss your level of coverage with your insurance company or have a member of our team work on your behalf. No matter if your insurer agrees to cover a portion of your treatment or none at all, we can work to identify alternative methods of payment to help you stay within your budget while getting the care you need.

WILL I NEED TO WEAR A RETAINER?

Yes, when you are finished with Invisalign, you will need to wear a retainer. Why? Because your teeth will want to shift back into their original position. To keep this from happening and undoing all the progress you’ve made, a retainer will hold your teeth in place. In the beginning, it may be necessary for you to wear it all the time; however, after several months, we may be able to instruct you to wear your retainer only at night while you are sleeping.

HOW OFTEN WILL I BE EXPECTED TO SEE THE DENTIST WHILE WEARING INVISALIGN?

It is necessary that you maintain regular visits every 4-6 weeks. Fortunately, these visits are much quicker than if you were to be wearing traditional metal braces. Most appointments only take about 20 minutes. If there are adjustments or revisions that need to be made at any point, you can expect your appointment to run a bit longer; however, the quickness of these visits makes Invisalign a more appealing solution to most patients.
