There are many drinks people don’t realize cause significant negative side effects to our enamel and oral health in general, so it’s important that you either moderate or completely cut these beverages if you are sensitive to decay or trying to improve your oral health.

Coffee

Coffee may be good for giving you a boost of energy in the morning, as well as a few other healthy benefits. However, when talking only about oral health, it’s something you’ll want to moderate. It’s naturally brown color can stain teeth easily if not washed away promptly after drinking. Failing to do so can cause your teeth to turn to a yellow shade over time.

Coffee can also increase your chances of cavities if you add large amounts of sugar or creamer to your daily cup. Consider reducing or removing sugar and cream entirely to reduce your chances of developing cavities and enamel erosion.

Tea

If you’re looking for a coffee substitute, tea is a great place to start. Its antioxidant properties are good for the body, plus many types contain just as much caffeine as a cup of coffee. However, the color you choose can make a difference in your smile’s appearance. Dark-colored teas like black tea can stain your teeth as easily as coffee.

Soda

The next time you go to buy a case of sports drink, consider reading the nutrition label to see how much sugar is in a single serving: you just might switch to plain water completely afterwards.
